How To Stop Swaying and Sliding During The Golf Swing

Swaying and sliding during the golf swing is a lot more common than you think. About 40% of golfers sway, while 32% of golfers slide. This week we are going to discuss a few of the reasons you are moving laterally during the swing and I will be giving you a few exercises to help you get rid of that annoying sway or slide.

Reason #1: You are unable to rotate properly

If you lack the thoracic spine mobility or the hip mobility to rotate during the golf swing you will be forced to compensate during the golf swing. Moving away from the target during the backswing and towards the target during the downswing could be one of the possible compensation.

Reason #2: You have a hard time balancing

Golf is a game of balancing and weight shifts. If you lack the stability to remain balanced when your weight is unevenly distributed you might be moving laterally instead of transferring your weight from one leg to the other.

Reason #3: You lack upper and lower body dissasociation

If you don’t have the ability to move your upper and lower body separately your body will move in one piece during the entire swing. This will ruin your sequence and might throw you off balance moving your whole body at once instead of the individual parts of the kinematic sequence.

Exercises:

  1. Thoracic Spine Stretch
  2. Hip Internal and External Rotations
  3. Single Leg Rotations
  4. Long Turns
